The first of several essays of mine that will be published this summer came out earlier this week in the latest issue of Black Sheep: Unique Tales of Terror and Wonder. Of my soon-to-be-released essays, this one should be the most fun.
“Road Trip to South Carolina” is a fictionalized account of a trip I took seventeen years ago with kickball friends in a rented RV to a Florida Gators football game (well, semi-fictionalized). Several years removed from college and on a quest to relive their glory days, the buddies quickly find their adventure going sideways and hijinks ensue. “Road Trip” is also my love letter to the Tim Tebow era of Florida football, as well as a fond reflection of some of the guys that made playing kickball as a young professional so much fun.
Black Sheep, one of several magazines published by Dark Horse, describes itself as “an extraordinary anthology magazine that transcends the boundaries of science-fiction, fantasy, and horror” and explores “the darkest corners of the human imagination, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary, and the mundane transforms into a realm of unspeakable terror and awe-inspiring wonder.” The latest issue can be purchased on Amazon for $3.99 for Kindle or $9.99 for paperback.
