If you’re in Gainesville on Saturday, Jan. 24th, come join me at the Sunshine State Book Festival

If any of you plan to be in Gainesville the weekend after the MLK holiday, I welcome you to join me at the Sunshine State Book Festival at the Santa Fee College Fine Arts Hall at 3000 N.W. 83rd Street. I’ll be joining 100 other authors at the Meet the Authors Showcase and Expo from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where we’ll be showcasing, selling, and signing our books and discussing our writing. I’ll have a plenty of copies of my award-winning book, Finding My Way Home: Fighting Depression Backpacking in Central Florida if you’d like to pick one up!

The Sunshine State Book Festival is hosted each year by the Writers Alliance of Gainesville, an organization I had the privilege of joining last year that provides advice to Florida writers and hosts monthly community events promoting creative writing.

The Festival is free to the public and will feature plenty of family-friendly events celebrating literature and the arts, including:

  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Meet the Authors Showcase and Expo
  • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Sunshine State Teen Lit Awards. The winners of the Sunshine State Teen Lit Short Story Contest for local high and middle school students will be announced.
  • Noon to 3 p.m., Children’s Story Time. Seven children’s book authors will read their work and provide worksheets to the kids.
  • 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Presentation by Dr. David Morton, Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Central Florida. “Writers in Paradise: Hemingway, Capote, Hurston and Others Who Found Their Inspiration in Florida”
  • 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Performance of Passion Dey Couldn’t Steal – The Zora Neal Hurston Story, an original one-woman play written and performed by Pamela D. Marshal.

I look forward to seeing you there!
