I was honored (again) to have Sandra Friend, the author of The Florida Trail Guide and many other great books on backpacking, post another essay of mine on the FloridaHikes.com. The piece, titled “A Forest is Reborn in the Green Swamp,” recounts my experiences hiking and backpacking in the Green Swamp East Tract this spring shortly after a controlled burn.
Coincidentally, the second of these trips was the one where I met members of the Heartland chapter of the Florida Trail Association.
As I’ve mentioned in other posts, FloridaHikes.com is the definitive authority for hiking and backpacking in Florida, and I use the articles posted there to plan every trip I take into the Florida wilderness. Thanks again, Sandra and John!
